Coro Nuovo's Sussex Young Musician of the Year

2019 Coro Nuovo Sussex Young Musician of the Year Competition

The Finals of the 2019 Sussex Young Musician of the Year Competition took place during Coro Nuovo’s Earth’s Beauty Summer Concert on Saturday 6th July St Andrew’s Church, Burgess Hill.

Winner – £1000 Prize
Leo Popplewell (Cello, centre):  Leo is 24 and from Chichester.  He is a postgraduate student at Guildhall on the MMus course and shortly to be appointed a Junior Fellow there.

Runner-Up – £500 Prize
George Robinson (Classical Guitar, left):  George is 24 – also from Chichester and is studying for a master’s in performance at the Royal College of Music.

Finalist – £250 Prize
Andrew Martin (Flute, second left):  Andy is 25 and from Chichester.  He was a finalist in last year’s Sussex Young Musician competition. He is currently in his second year of a Masters in Orchestral Artistry at Guildhall and he has performed in many prestigious UK venues.

Finalist – £250 Prize
Maria Luc (Piano, right):  Maria is 23 from Chichester. She is a postgraduate at the Royal Northern College studying for her MMus.  She is a multiple award-winning pianist.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2018

Rebecca Leggett (soprano) studied at Trinity Laban in London for a Bachelor of Music degree before taking apostgraduate MA course at the world-famous Royal College of Music. Sha won the TL Elisabeth Schumann Lieder Competition in 2016 and was also a member of the prestigious Genesis Sixteen, a programme specially designed to nurture the next generation of talented singers.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2017

Gideon Brooks (trumpet) is from Bognor Regis.  At the time of the competition he was in his final year of postgraduate studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is principal trumpet with the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and toured with the European Youth Orchestra in summer 2018.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2017

Hannah Corcoran (saxophone) is originally from Brighton and was our inaugural winner of the Coro Nuovo Young Musician Competition. She is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and has been offered a place at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York.
