Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2023

Our current Sussex Young Musician is Eliette Harris (Violin)

Brighton-born Eliette is captivating audiences with her remarkable violin skills. At the time of the competition was at the esteemed Advanced String Orchestral program at the Royal Northern College/Halle in Manchester.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2022

Zoe played classical guitar and at the time of the competition was studying at the Royal College of Music. On hearing she had won, Zoe said “I am delighted and thrilled to be given the title and the award which will help so much in my future studies at the Royal College”.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2021

Jane’s performances in four songs sung in German of all different styles won over judge Sakari Oramo and she was awarded the first prize of £1,000 to help her with her Music Masters studies at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2020

Toril (percussion) is studying at the Royal College of Music. He reached the Percussion Finals of the BBC Young Musician both in 2018 and 2020 and he has had the opportunity of being involved in a variety of projects such as playing at the Glyndebourne Opera House, the BBC Proms and touring the UK with Chineke! Orchestra. Toril was also the youngest member of the LSO Percussion Academy and has played alongside Dame Evelyn Glennie. He has also won prizes for his compositions writing for a wide variety of styles.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2019

Leo Popplewell (cello) is a Junior Fellow and postgraduate student at Guildhall on the MMus course.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2018

Rebecca Leggett (soprano) studied at Trinity Laban in London for a Bachelor of Music degree before taking apostgraduate MA course at the world-famous Royal College of Music. She won the TL Elisabeth Schumann Lieder Competition in 2016 and was also a member of the prestigious Genesis Sixteen, a programme specially designed to nurture the next generation of talented singers.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2017

Gideon Brooks (trumpet) is from Bognor Regis.  At the time of the competition he was in his final year of postgraduate studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is principal trumpet with the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and toured with the European Youth Orchestra in summer 2018.

Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2016

Hannah Corcoran (saxophone) is originally from Brighton and was our inaugural winner of the Coro Nuovo Young Musician Competition. She is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and has been offered a place at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York.
